Las Encartaciones are the great unknown of Bizkaia

The route starts in Bilbao where you take the BI-636 to GUEÑES, stopping along the way to discover the Parish Church of Santa María.

After a brief stop, continue to GORDEXOLA, the most western district of Bizkaia, to discover Oxirando Tower.

Continue the route through ZALLA, towards the town of BALMASEDA, the largest settlement in Las Encartaciones.

Set in a beautiful but unknown landscape for the people of Bizkaia, you can discover the town via the Station bridge and along Paseo Martín Mendia, which leads you to the image par excellence of Balmaseda, its Puente Viejo (Old Bridge), built in the 12th century.

The Puente Viejo leads to the San Lorenzo neighbourhood, which was home to the old Jewish District. After this you can enjoy a visit around the Monumental buildings of Santa Clara, San Juan del Moral Church, Homositas Palaces and Urrutia Palace as well as the Plaza de San Severino, with its church of the same name.
